Proposal for OFW reintegration program gets green light from House committee

The House Committee on Overseas Workers Affairs has approved a proposal to establish a comprehensive reintegration program for overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) returning to the Philippines.

The committee will draft a substitute bill for House Resolution 2056 and House Bill 1130, along with its corresponding committee report. The measure was authored by OFW Party-list Representative Marissa Magsino, Abante Tonite reported.

Rep. Magsino emphasized the importance of assisting OFWs who faced unfortunate experiences abroad, including abusive employers, illegal recruitment, human trafficking, low wages, and other hardships.

“While some OFWs manage to build comfortable lives for their families upon returning, many come home empty-handed, burdened by debt, and in need of support,” Magsino said.

House Bill 1130 proposes the creation of an Integrated Reintegration Program to address the economic, social, and psychosocial needs of returning OFWs, ensuring their smooth and sustainable reintegration into society.
