A retired engineer and former overseas Filipino worker (OFW) was shot and killed outside his home in Barangay Calaba, Bangued, Abra, on Tuesday evening, marking the latest gun-related violence in the province.
According to a Manila Times report, Emanuel “Nolie” Bacarra Manglibo, 62, was attacked by an unidentified gunman as he was about to enter his residence. The assailant fired twice, hitting Manglibo’s right shoulder and the back of his head.
Authorities rushed the victim to Seares Memorial Hospital, but he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Local police have launched a province-wide manhunt and are intensifying their investigation into the incident, which adds to a string of violent crimes in Abra’s capital.
La Paz Mayor JB Bernos, who also serves as the national president of the League of Municipalities, voiced concern over the escalating violence. “This senseless killing has to stop,” he said, urging law enforcement to strengthen measures against gun-related crimes in the province.
