Woman sentenced to 25 years for drunk driving crash that killed bride on wedding day

A South Carolina woman has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for a drunk driving incident that claimed the life of a bride just hours after her wedding and left the groom critically injured.

Jamie Lee Komoroski, 27, pleaded guilty to felony DUI and reckless homicide for the April 2023 crash that killed Samantha Miller and injured Miller’s husband, Aric Hutchinson, along with two other passengers.

Authorities reported that Komoroski’s blood alcohol level was three times the legal limit at the time of the crash. She was driving 40 miles per hour over the speed limit when she struck the golf cart carrying the newlyweds and their guests on Folly Beach.

Miller died at the scene, while Hutchinson suffered multiple broken bones, a brain injury, and required reconstructive surgeries. The other passengers also sustained severe injuries.

In court, Komoroski tearfully apologized to Miller’s family, expressing deep remorse for her actions. “I take full responsibility for my actions,” she said. “I know forgiveness must be earned, and I will always be deeply ashamed and sorry for what I have done.”
