Man declared dead in India opens eyes moments before cremation

A man in Rajasthan, India, narrowly escaped being cremated alive after he unexpectedly opened his eyes just before being placed on the funeral pyre.

According to reports, the 45-year-old man, identified as Rohitash, was admitted to a hospital in Jhunjhunu due to a severe illness. After being administered medication, doctors declared him dead a few hours later. His body was kept in the morgue before being taken to a crematorium in accordance with his religious customs.

However, moments before the cremation began, Rohitash regained consciousness, startling those present. He was immediately rushed back to the hospital and placed in the ICU, where he ultimately passed away hours later.

An investigation revealed that doctors failed to conduct a proper post-mortem examination to confirm his death, relying instead on paperwork formalities. Sharad Choudhary, the local police superintendent, criticized the medical team for their negligence.

Rohitash, who was deaf, mute, and an orphan living in a shelter, had no relatives to advocate for him during his hospital stay. Following the incident, the principal medical officer and three doctors were suspended, but the hospital administration has yet to release an official statement.
