UAE National Day travel trends: Last-minute bookings spike as holiday approaches

Skyscanner, a leading travel app, has released insights on outbound travel trends from the UAE ahead of the National Day long weekend. Celebrated annually on December 2, the holiday marks the unification of the Emirates in 1971. This year, residents will enjoy a four-day break with public holidays on Monday, December 2, and Tuesday, December 3.

The analysis, based on flight searches from January to November 2024, highlights popular destinations and notable year-on-year increases in travel interest.

Mumbai and Kochi in India are the top picks for UAE residents, offering rich cultural experiences and short travel times. London also remains a favorite for its blend of history and modern attractions. Cairo is gaining traction as a must-visit destination, thanks to its iconic pyramids and historical charm, while Bangkok and Istanbul appeal to travelers seeking vibrant city life and unique cultural offerings.

The Maldives and Sri Lanka have also seen increased interest, drawing travelers with their picturesque beaches, luxury stays, and diverse cultural landscapes.

Skyscanner reports a 23% year-on-year surge in travel searches from the UAE in October, with a 14% rise in redirects to airline and booking platforms in November. Last-minute plans are also on the rise, with an 86% jump in booking redirects on November 25 compared to the previous day. Many travelers are expected to begin their trips on November 29, making the most of the extended holiday weekend.
