The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) announced changes to its official Facebook page on Wednesday, November 27, 2024, in response to suspected troll activities.
“We are temporarily disabling features on our official Facebook page to deny trolls a platform for their suspicious activities,” the AFP stated in a post on its page.
The AFP described troll farms as a societal threat, emphasizing the importance of countering the spread of false and malicious information. “Troll farms are a menace to society, and we choose not to empower inauthentic actors in their coordinated attempt to spread disinformation and misinformation,” the statement added.
While certain interactive features, such as the comment section and messaging, are now disabled, the AFP assured the public that official announcements and updates will continue to be available through its legitimate platforms and media outlets.
“Statements, releases, and information on our activities will continue to be posted on our official channels and legitimate media organizations,” the AFP clarified.
The agency also urged the public to rely on credible sources for information and to report malicious activities online. “We call on everyone to report malicious activities online and receive information from reputable sources only,” it appealed.
The adjustments come amid allegations involving AFP Chief General Romeo Browler Jr., who earlier denied rumors linking him to Vice President Sara Duterte’s security detail following threats reportedly made against top government officials.
