The Philippines improved its standing in the 2024 Network Readiness Index (NRI), climbing six spots to rank 63rd out of 133 economies. The country achieved a score of 49.93 out of 100 in the global ranking, which evaluates the impact of information and communication technology (ICT) on economies worldwide.
The annual index, conducted by the Portulans Institute, measures readiness across four key pillars: technology, people, governance, and impact. The Philippines’ strongest performance was in the “people” dimension, ranking 33rd globally, with notable strides also observed in governance (ranked 74th) and impact (ranked 58th). However, the country continues to face challenges in the technology pillar, where it ranked 79th.
Singapore led the East and Southeast Asian region, securing second place globally with a score of 76.94, while South Korea and Japan ranked fifth and 12th, respectively. The United States maintained the top spot globally with 78.96 points.
This advancement reflects the Philippines’ ongoing efforts to leverage digital technology to enhance governance, connectivity, and societal impact. However, further improvements in ICT infrastructure are needed to keep pace with regional competitors.
