Expedia’s latest data reveals that searches for Baku have surged by a staggering 515% year-on-year, while Tbilisi has seen a 210% increase. Just a short flight away, these destinations combine affordability with experiences that rival Europe’s traditional winter hotspots. Visitors to Baku can enjoy the vibrant cityscape alongside nearby skiing at Shahdag Mountain Resort. Similarly, Tbilisi offers a festive atmosphere paired with access to Gudauri and Bakuriani Resorts, known for their pristine slopes.
“These destinations are capturing the hearts of UAE travelers this winter,” an Expedia spokesperson shared. “With their unique mix of cultural experiences and winter sports, they offer something special without breaking the bank.”
While Baku and Tbilisi lead the charts, UAE residents are also gravitating toward other destinations. Searches for Doha have spiked by 235%, driven by luxury hospitality and cultural attractions, while European cities such as Paris (+235%) and London (+205%) remain firm favorites. Closer to home, the UAE’s cooler weather and National Day celebrations have boosted interest in staycations, with Abu Dhabi and Dubai seeing significant increases in travel searches.
For long-haul adventures, destinations like Rovaniemi, Vienna, and Rome attract festive travelers with iconic Christmas markets and seasonal activities. Amsterdam, with its Light Festival and Christmas Village, has also emerged as a new favorite, with a 65% uptick in interest.
Not all travelers are chasing the cold. Singapore, Zanzibar, and Phuket have drawn those looking to bask in warmer climates. These destinations offer white sandy beaches, rich urban experiences, and world-class dining, making them ideal for families and solo adventurers alike.
