More than half of Filipinos (52%) are satisfied with the country’s infrastructure, according to the recently published Global Infrastructure Index 2024 by Ipsos and the Global Infrastructure Investor Association. This figure surpasses the global average of 40%, positioning the Philippines as the fifth-most satisfied nation in the Asia-Pacific region.
The report highlighted that Filipinos rated infrastructure related to airports (72%), major roads and motorways (73%), and renewable energy sources such as solar and wind (72%) highly. These sectors received satisfaction levels significantly above the global averages. However, areas such as rail infrastructure (39%) and flood defenses (41%) garnered lower ratings, falling below both global and regional benchmarks.
Among Asia-Pacific countries, Singapore led the rankings with 74% satisfaction, followed closely by India and Indonesia with 73% and 64%, respectively. The Philippines’ infrastructure satisfaction level also closely aligns with neighboring Thailand (51%) but remains ahead of Malaysia (44%) and Australia (42%).
Ipsos conducted the survey from May 24 to June 7, 2024, interviewing over 23,000 adults across 32 countries. While the Philippines demonstrated progress in infrastructure development, the data also underscores areas that need improvement, such as housing supply and water systems, where satisfaction lags.
