A banana duct-taped to a wall was sold for an astonishing $6.2 million (over PHP 350 million) during an auction at Sotheby’s in New York City yesterday.
The banana is part of a conceptual artwork titled “Comedian” by Italian artist Maurizio Cattelan. The piece, initially priced at $1.5 million, saw its value climb steadily due to bids from seven interested buyers.
The winning bid came from Chinese entrepreneur Justin Sun, founder of a cryptocurrency platform, securing the unusual artwork as its new owner.
