DMW assures support for Mary Jane Veloso and family amid transfer plans to the Philippines

The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) has committed to providing assistance to Mary Jane Veloso and her family if her transfer from Indonesia to the Philippines is finalized.

Veloso, imprisoned in Indonesia since 2010 and on death row for drug trafficking, received confirmation from President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Wednesday that the Indonesian government approved her return to the Philippines. She will continue serving her sentence locally.

DMW Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac assured that welfare support would be extended to Veloso and her family. “We have already been helping the family. Financial assistance was given by the late Secretary Toots Ople to Nanay Celia and the family. We are ready to provide any necessary assistance,” Cacdac said during an interview on Bagong Pilipinas Ngayon.

Cacdac also expressed his intention to visit Veloso upon her return and ensure her needs are met in coordination with appropriate authorities. He added that the DMW would facilitate family visits if necessary.

The DMW is working closely with the Department of Foreign Affairs and the Department of Justice regarding Veloso’s case.
