Dubai Police have announced the seizure of 1,780 scooters and bicycles during a traffic safety campaign aimed at ensuring compliance with road safety regulations. The operation, held in collaboration with Al Rifa’a Police Station, resulted in the confiscation of 1,417 bicycles and 363 electric scooters and bicycles in the Al Rifa’a jurisdiction.
Authorities highlighted in a Khaleej Times that many of the violations stemmed from improper use of scooters and bicycles in non-designated areas, including public roads and pedestrian pathways, posing significant risks to both riders and other road users. The campaign also led to 251 fines being issued for violations such as failure to wear helmets, ignoring traffic signals, and lacking essential safety features like reflective gear and proper lighting.
Dubai Police outlined essential safety measures for riders, emphasizing the use of designated bike lanes, avoiding pedestrian paths, and prohibiting passengers on electric scooters. Riders are also required to wear helmets and reflective vests, equip their vehicles with front and rear lights, maintain safe distances from vehicles and pedestrians, and avoid unauthorized modifications or towing practices.
The authority urged the public to report any unsafe behavior through the ‘Police Eye’ service on the Dubai Police app or via the ‘We Are All Police’ hotline at 901.
