Rian Fernandez, a celebrated Filipino designer, has once again captured the global spotlight by creating the evening gown worn by Miss Universe Thailand 2024, Opal Suchata, at the Miss Universe 2024 pageant, where she placed as third runner-up.
On Instagram, Fernandez unveiled the story behind the captivating gold and white gown titled “Queen’s Wings of Triumph,” which Opal donned during the evening gown competition. The design pays homage to Thep Kinnaree, a mythical figure in Thai folklore known for being half-woman, half-swan.
“The gown embodies a regal essence that captures the enchanting spirit of the Kinnaree, leaving an indelible mark of elegance and grace,” Fernandez wrote, describing the off-shoulder, wing-like neckline and the fitted silhouette that transitions into a relaxed skirt train.
This isn’t the first time Fernandez has worked with Opal. He also designed the gown that secured her victory in the Miss Universe Thailand 2024 pageant last July. Known for his show-stopping creations, Fernandez previously dressed Miss Universe 2022 R’Bonney Gabriel for her final walk and designed the gown for Miss Universe Philippines 2022 Celeste Cortesi during her appearance at Miss Universe Thailand 2023.
Chelsea Manalo, the Philippine representative at Miss Universe 2024, ended her journey in the Top 30 and was later crowned the first Miss Universe Asia, marking a significant achievement for the country.
