South Korea contributes P30 million to aid typhoon-affected families in the Philippines

The South Korean government has provided P30 million in assistance through the United Nations World Food Program (WFP) to support Filipino families impacted by a series of typhoons. This contribution allowed the WFP and the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) to reach 14,500 households with children under five who are enrolled in the government’s Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps).

Beneficiaries include families affected by Typhoon Kristine and other recent storms such as Leon, Marce, Nika, and Ofel. Assistance will be distributed in two of the most affected areas, Albay and Camarines Sur, where families will receive P3,300 in cash for two months to meet immediate food and essential needs.

South Korean Ambassador Lee Sang-hwa expressed hope that the aid would support recovery efforts and help communities return to normalcy. WFP Philippines Country Director Regis Chapman highlighted that South Korea’s timely assistance enabled a swift response in collaboration with DSWD to reach the hardest-hit areas.

The WFP has been providing logistical support, emergency telecommunications, and damage assessments to complement the government’s efforts in disaster response.
