Filipina actress Lourdes Faberes joins Netflix’s live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender cast

Lourdes Faberes, recognized for her performance in The Sandman, is set to appear in the second season of Netflix’s live-action adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender. The streaming platform revealed the new cast members of the Earth Kingdom on November 13.

Faberes will portray General Sung, one of the trusted generals of the Earth King. Notably, the character was originally male in the animated series and played a vital role in protecting Ba Sing Se’s Outer Wall.

Sharing her excitement on Instagram, Faberes said, “I’ve been sitting on this news for over a month now and I’m so thrilled to say I’m joining the [Avatar] family!” She expressed her admiration for the show’s themes of courage, friendship, resilience, and the pursuit of a place to call home.

Faberes, who has often been the only East Asian presence on film sets in the UK and Europe, highlighted the significance of being surrounded by a cast rich in Asian talent. “It’s been such a long time coming,” she added.

Season two will also feature Chin Han as Long Feng, Justin Chien as King Kuei, Amanda Zhou as Joo Dee, Crystal Yu as Lady Beifong, Kelemete Misipeka as The Boulder, Hoa Xuande as Professor Zei, and Rekha Sharma as Amita.

Previously, it was announced that Miya Cech would play Toph Beifong, the newest member of Team Avatar.

The show’s primary cast includes Gordan Cormier, Kiawentiio, Ian Ousley, Dallas Liu, Elizabeth Yu, Paul Sun-Hyung Lee, and Daniel Dae Kim.

Lourdes Faberes, who was born in Manila and later studied at the Central School of Speech and Drama in the UK, has also appeared in Good Omens, No Time to Die, Boiling Point, and Knightfall.
