Construction begins on Dubai’s first air taxi station near DXB

Construction has officially begun on Dubai’s first aerial taxi station near Dubai International Airport, as announced by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Deputy Prime Minister of the UAE. The Crown Prince shared this milestone on Tuesday, emphasizing the city’s progress toward pioneering urban air mobility.

The initial vertiport will span 3,100 square meters and is projected to accommodate 42,000 landings and 170,000 passengers annually. The project’s first phase, slated for completion in 2026, includes the development of additional stations in Downtown, Dubai Marina, and Palm Jumeirah. The service aims to reduce travel time from Dubai International Airport to Palm Jumeirah to approximately 10-12 minutes, significantly cutting down the current commute of over 45 minutes during peak traffic.

Joby Aviation, a leader in electric aircraft manufacturing, will oversee the production and operational aspects, while Skyports will handle infrastructure design and management. The Road and Transport Authority (RTA) will manage governance and integration with Dubai’s broader transportation network.

The eco-friendly Joby S4 aerial taxi features vertical take-off and landing capabilities, six rotors, four battery packs, and a flight range of 161 km at speeds up to 321 km/h, accommodating four passengers plus a pilot. The initiative aligns with Dubai’s vision to enhance mobility while maintaining a commitment to innovation and sustainability.
