The launch of The Season Night Market in Muraqqabat turned into a moment of generosity and community spirit as organizers distributed 1,000 sacks of rice to attendees during its soft opening. Initially planning to give away 200 sacks, the organizers, supported by private entities and contributions from the Galo siblings, expanded the giveaway to reach five times the original number.
KC Galo Laceda, one of the figures behind the event, shared the experience on Facebook, expressing gratitude and surprise at the overwhelming turnout:
“We prepared 200 bags/sacks… We didn’t expect much since no food stalls were open and only few shops were available… By 5 PM, people were piling up, and when we arrived at 6:30 PM, many were asking about the stubs. The GALO siblings contributed to ensure we reached a total of 1,000,” Laceda posted.
The distribution highlighted a strong sense of community, as Laceda reflected on values instilled by their parents about sharing blessings. “It felt good to reflect on how our parents taught us to share what we have… May God bless us even more so we can share with our fellowman.”
The event, which took place near Dencio’s restaurant in Muraqqabat, was marked by excitement as Filipino residents gathered to witness the new night market’s soft opening. While the full range of food and shopping options was not yet available, the gesture of distributing rice created a warm, inclusive atmosphere.
Adding to the festive spirit, the cast of the hit series Univerkada, including Jerome Ponce, Krissha Viaje, Hyacinth Callado, Gab Lagman, Jairus Aquino, and Aaliyah Tuazon, made special appearances to greet attendees and show their support for the community.
