Beyonce has secured 11 nominations for her groundbreaking album Cowboy Carter in the 67th annual Grammy Awards, positioning her as the most nominated artist at this year’s event. The album, which celebrates Black cowboy culture and southern heritage, has reignited conversations about genre and race in the industry.
Despite her storied career and record number of Grammy nominations, Beyonce has never won in the major categories of Album or Record of the Year. This year, she faces tough competition from Taylor Swift, who holds six nominations and has already won four Album of the Year awards, surpassing legends like Frank Sinatra and Paul Simon.
Swift’s album The Tortured Poets Department, which received mixed reviews, also puts her in the race. In addition, Beyonce will contend with a diverse group of contemporary pop artists such as Charli XCX, Sabrina Carpenter, and Chappell Roan, each with six or seven nominations, and Billie Eilish, who earned seven nods.
Hip-hop heavyweight Kendrick Lamar and Post Malone, known for their genre-blending approaches, also garnered seven nominations each, including major categories.
Notably, Cowboy Carter is nominated for Album of the Year alongside New Blue Sun by Andre 3000—a flute album—and other high-profile entries. In the fiercely contested Best New Artist category, rising stars like Sabrina Carpenter and Chappell Roan will compete against Shaboozey, whose hit song A Bar Song (Tipsy) has topped charts and earned additional songwriting recognition.
The Grammy ceremony, featuring 94 award categories, will take place on February 2, 2025, in Los Angeles. The nominee list sets the stage for an anticipated showdown between music titans and fresh faces in pop, highlighting the evolving landscape of the industry.
