Dubai Police have issued a strong reminder to drivers that no traffic violation goes unnoticed, thanks to their advanced smart camera systems. Recently, serious cases of distracted driving were flagged by these technologies, showcasing the dangers of inattentive behavior on the road.
In a striking example shared on the social media platform X, a female driver was spotted using two phones simultaneously, holding one to each ear. This reckless act left her unable to control the steering wheel with her hands.
Another alarming incident captured by the system involved a driver reading a newspaper while navigating traffic. The paper not only diverted her attention from the road but also blocked her full view of the highway.
Dubai Police highlighted that their cutting-edge traffic monitoring systems can detect violations even through heavily tinted windshields. Maj-Gen Saif Muhair Al Mazrouei, director of the General Department of Traffic, emphasized the city’s investment in smart technologies to enhance road safety and enforce regulations.
He reminded the public that repeat offenders face vehicle impoundment for up to 30 days in addition to fines ranging from Dh400 to Dh1,000 and four black points for violations such as using mobile phones while driving, tailgating, and abrupt lane changes.
“The advanced systems are capable of detecting a wide range of violations, including failure to wear seat belts and mobile phone use, even with tinted windshields,” Maj-Gen Al Mazrouei noted in a Khaleej Times report. He underscored that these innovations support Dubai’s goal of being a leader in traffic safety and align with efforts to reduce road accident fatalities.
