Comelec to finalize 2025 midterm voter list by month’s end after removing duplicates

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) is set to release the final voter list for the 2025 midterm elections by the end of this month. This update follows an intensive review using the Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS), which flagged over a million duplicate or multiple voter registrations.

Comelec Chairman George Garcia stated that at least one million records will be removed from the database, as AFIS detected these cases of repeated registration using voter biometrics.

A special meeting by the Election Registration Board is planned to finalize the cleanup. Garcia noted that individuals with multiple registrations may face legal consequences for violating election rules. He also explained that the reasons behind duplicate registrations will be investigated, including potential unprocessed transfers or reactivations that were mistakenly recorded as new registrations.

Comelec records currently indicate a total of 68,618,667 eligible voters for next year’s polls. Three elections are scheduled for 2025: the midterm elections and the first Bangsamoro parliamentary elections in May, and the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections in December.
