Vice President Sara Duterte marked All Saints’ Day with a call for Filipinos to pray for the country’s peace and stability amid what she described as the challenges posed by “evil, injustice, and self-interest.” Duterte encouraged Filipinos to honor the holiness of the saints and to remember the souls of the departed.
In a statement, she urged the public to seek solace in prayer, sharing, “Let us turn to them with our fears and pray for relief from life’s burdens.”
She further added, “Together, let us pray for the peace and resilience of our nation in the face of challenges from evil, corruption, and the self-interest of a few seeking wealth and power.”
This statement follows recent comments Duterte made in a press conference where she sharply criticized President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., her former running mate in the 2022 elections. Her remarks came as the Marcos-aligned House of Representatives began examining her office’s use of confidential funds, alongside a Quad Committee investigation into alleged extrajudicial activities during the presidency of her father, Rodrigo Duterte.
Marcos has yet to respond directly to Duterte’s criticisms.
