An employee of a supermarket in Karama stands accused of stealing Dh80,000 worth of gold jewellery and other belongings from his manager’s apartment while the latter was on vacation.
The miscreant reportedly duplicated the key to the apartment and took the opportunity to steal the items. Among the stolen belongings was the manager’s passport.
After committing the theft, the employee stashed the stolen goods at a friend’s residence before fleeing the country. He allegedly informed his friend that the items were indeed stolen.
The theft came to light when the manager’s son discovered the robbery and promptly alerted the police. Acting swiftly, the police apprehended the thief’s accomplice and recovered all stolen items.
Both the thief, who was sentenced in absentia, and his friend, who is present for the trial, now face legal repercussions.
