Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced plans to build five bridges over the Trade Centre Roundabout, aiming to streamline traffic flow across key intersections in the city. Spanning over 5,000 meters, the bridges will connect Sheikh Zayed Road to major roads, including Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street, Sheikh Rashid Street, 2nd December Street, Zabeel Palace Street, and Al Mustaqbal Street.
As reported by Khaleej Times, the project will transform the existing roundabout into a surface intersection, enhancing traffic movement from Sheikh Zayed Road to 2nd December Street and southbound from Al Mustaqbal Street. The development, valued at Dh696.414 million, is expected to double the roundabout’s capacity, reducing delay times from 12 minutes to 90 seconds and travel time from Sheikh Zayed Road to Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street from six minutes to one.
Once complete, the upgraded routes will facilitate free-flowing traffic from Jumeirah and Al Satwa to Al Mustaqbal Street, along with smoother movement from Sheikh Rashid Street to Deira. The project is anticipated to serve over half a million residents and visitors in neighborhoods like DWTC, DIFC, Zabeel, Al Satwa, Karama, Jafiliya, and Mankhool.
The bridge design includes:
- A 1,000-meter, two-lane bridge from Sheikh Zayed Road to Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street, supporting up to 3,000 vehicles per hour.
- Two two-lane bridges extending 2,000 meters to connect Sheikh Rashid Street with 2nd December Street, accommodating 6,000 vehicles per hour.
- Two additional two-lane bridges of 2,000 meters each, linking Al Majles Street to 2nd December Street, for smoother access to Al Mustaqbal Street.
