Aging 20-year-old baggage system causes delays at NAIA Terminal 3

Passengers flying from Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3 have been experiencing significant delays in receiving their luggage due to technical issues with the terminal’s aging baggage handling system. The New NAIA Infrastructure Corp (NNIC) confirmed on October 22 that the 20-year-old system malfunctioned, disrupting the processing of checked-in baggage.

Cebu Pacific, one of the affected airlines, stated that they are working closely with NNIC to address the situation and restore normal operations. Passengers on both international and domestic flights were given the option to collect their bags at the airport or have them delivered to their final destinations.

NNIC announced that they have procured a new baggage handling system with redundancy measures to prevent future disruptions. The corporation emphasized the importance of upgrading NAIA’s infrastructure, noting that modernization efforts have been underway since they assumed management of the airport in September.
