Calls grow for psychological evaluation of VP Duterte after alarming threats

Zambales 1st District Representative and House Assistant Majority Leader Jay Khongkun has urged Vice President Sara Duterte to seek a “psychological assessment” following her controversial statements involving President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and his family. Khongkun expressed concern over Duterte’s alarming threats, which he described as indicative of possible instability.

Duterte made the remarks during a press conference on Friday, October 17, where she admitted to imagining cutting off President Marcos Jr.’s head and warned his sister, Senator Imee Marcos, that she would exhume the body of their late father, former President Ferdinand Marcos Sr., and throw it into the West Philippine Sea if political attacks against her persisted.

In response, Khongkun expressed deep concern over Duterte’s statements, stating that no rational person would make such threats. “The level of irrationality in her words is deeply alarming,” Khongkun said in Filipino. He also emphasized that such violent comments reflect instability, calling for a psychological assessment to determine if Duterte can continue serving in her role effectively.

“The alarming behavior of the Vice President reveals a deeper problem that needs to be addressed,” Khongkun added, noting that the issue goes beyond public concerns about misusing government resources.

La Union 1st District Representative Paolo Ortega also voiced concerns, warning of the potential dangers and implications of Duterte’s statements. “This kind of violent and frightening statement is unacceptable from anyone, especially from a sitting Vice President,” Ortega remarked, reminding the public of the importance of having leaders who are mentally and emotionally stable.
