Chicken inasal crowned as the top Filipino dish, beating adobo and sinigang

In a recent ranking by Taste Atlas, chicken inasal has claimed the title of the No. 1 Filipino dish, pushing aside adobo and sinigang. This grilled chicken delicacy, known for its flavorful marinade and signature golden hue, received a rating of 4.5 out of 5 based on food expert reviews.

Originating from Bacolod, chicken inasal is marinated in a mixture of vinegar, lemongrass, garlic, ginger, and other aromatic spices. What sets it apart is the annatto-infused oil brushed on the chicken while grilling, giving it a vibrant color and a distinct peppery flavor. Typically served with garlic fried rice and spiced vinegar, it has become a must-try dish for locals and tourists alike.

In 2022, Bacolod declared chicken inasal as an important cultural property, recognizing its significant role in Filipino cuisine. Taste Atlas also highlighted Aida’s Manokan in Bacolod as the best place to try this dish.

While chicken inasal sits at the top, other Filipino favorites like lechon and leche flan secured the second and third spots, respectively. On the other end, balut, the fertilized duck egg, was ranked as the worst Filipino dish, with halabos na hipon (steamed shrimp) finishing at the bottom of the list at No. 100.
