The Dibba Al Hisn Fort, Fili Fort, and Wadi Shees have been officially added to the Islamic World Heritage List by the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO), as announced by the Sharjah Archaeology Authority (SAA). These historical landmarks were recognized for their cultural and historical significance, reflecting their role in preserving heritage for future generations.
According to a WAM report, this inclusion was part of a broader effort by ICESCO’s Heritage Committee, which registered 91 cultural sites at their 12th meeting in Shusha, Azerbaijan, the 2024 Islamic World Cultural Capital. The nomination was submitted by the SAA in collaboration with Mubadara.
Dibba Al Hisn Fort has been a vital hub for trade and cultural exchange for over five centuries, while Fili Fort historically safeguarded water resources and trade routes. Wadi Shees is notable for its natural beauty and environmental significance, home to ancient irrigation systems and rare wildlife.
Eisa Yousif, SAA’s Director-General, credited Sharjah’s Ruler, Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, for his unwavering support in preserving the emirate’s rich cultural legacy.
