The oldest and smallest terminal at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), Terminal 4, will temporarily close in November 2024 for a major renovation, according to its new operator, New NAIA Infrastructure Corporation (NNIC). The terminal is expected to reopen in February 2025.
Angelito Alvarez, General Manager of NNIC, shared the news in an ABS-CBN News report, highlighting that the renovation will involve significant upgrades. While specific details were not disclosed, Alvarez referred to the project as a “major renovation”.
Terminal 4 primarily handles turboprop flights for smaller regional destinations. CebGo, the low-cost arm of Cebu Pacific, and boutique airline AirSWIFT have both announced they will move their operations to Terminal 2 starting November 7.
NNIC took over NAIA’s operations in September 2024 and pledged to address longstanding issues such as malfunctioning air conditioning, outdated amenities, and infrastructural problems. The company has promised improvements to parking, baggage handling, and check-in systems, alongside enhanced broadband connectivity.
However, with these upgrades, the Department of Transportation has noted an increase in passenger terminal fees, as well as fees for airlines. NNIC recently raised parking fees, which drew criticism but has led to more available parking spaces at the facility.
