DMW shuts down Davao language school for illegal job offers in Japan

The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) has closed the Kanou Japanese and English Academy Inc. in Davao City after it was found to be illegally recruiting students for jobs in Japan.

According to the DMW’s Migrant Workers Protection Bureau (MWPB), the school was operating without the proper license and had been sending students to recruitment agencies for placement in Japan. The students were required to pay P24,000 for a language training program lasting over four months, despite the school’s lack of authorization.

The jobs offered through the academy ranged from domestic work, such as housekeepers and caregivers, to industrial roles like factory workers and farmers.

The DMW has initiated the process to revoke Kanou’s business registration and permits. Its owners now face charges of illegal recruitment, which could lead to life imprisonment and fines of up to P5 million.
