A Dubai motorist has been sentenced to two years in prison and fined Dh100,000 after being found guilty of multiple traffic violations and drug-related offences, Khaleej Times reported. The Dubai Traffic Court convicted the driver for consuming psychotropic substances, driving under the influence, and operating an uninsured vehicle with an expired licence.
In addition to the prison term, the court ordered the suspension of the motorist’s driving licence for one year and mandated his deportation after serving the sentence. The court also prohibited him from transferring or depositing money for two years post-release without approval from the UAE Central Bank and the Ministry of Interior.
Counselor Salah Bu Farousha Al Falasi, head of the traffic prosecution, urged drivers to adhere to traffic laws and avoid driving under the influence to ensure road safety.
Under UAE law, motorists caught driving under the influence face harsh penalties, including fines, imprisonment, and licence suspension. Driving with an expired licence or registration, or operating an uninsured vehicle, also carries significant fines and penalties, including the possibility of vehicle confiscation.
