Former VP Leni Robredo officially enters Naga City mayoral race for Eleksyon 2025

Former Vice President Leni Robredo officially filed her certificate of candidacy (COC) for Naga City mayor on Saturday, ahead of the 2025 elections. Accompanied by her daughters, Aika and Jillian, Robredo submitted her COC at the local Commission on Elections (Comelec) office in Naga City, along with her supporters and running mates.

Robredo revealed that she had decided to pursue the mayoralty as early as June or July of this year. “Nasubukan ko na mag-legislative, nasubukan ko na ‘yung executive. Sigurado ako na mas mahusay ako sa executive position,” she said, expressing confidence in her ability to serve in a leadership role that aligns with her passion for community work.

She also clarified that her decision to run for mayor was not motivated by future plans for national office. “Tingin ko magiging unfair para sa city kung gagamitin ko lang ‘yung pag mayor bilang jump-off point,” she stated, adding that any future political endeavors would depend on her performance as mayor.

Robredo’s campaign will focus on inclusive development, addressing the evolving needs of Naga City while ensuring that economic progress benefits even the city’s most vulnerable. “The economic progress will not compromise the environment, the social issues, and the quality of life,” she emphasized.

Robredo’s running mate, outgoing Camarines Sur Representative Gabby Bordado, also filed his COC for vice mayor. Bordado previously served as vice mayor during the tenure of Robredo’s late husband, Jesse Robredo, as Naga City mayor.

The Robredo-Bordado ticket includes a roster of city council candidates, many of whom are incumbent or former officials. This lineup was formed through consultations with over 2,000 Naga residents, ensuring a community-centered approach to leadership.
