Remulla: DOJ likely to block Alice Guo’s reelection over falsified documents

Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla announced on Friday that the Department of Justice (DOJ) might challenge the reelection bid of dismissed Bamban, Tarlac mayor Alice Guo, also known as Guo Hua Ping, once she files her certificate of candidacy (COC).

Remulla indicated that the DOJ could take action, stating, “We may oppose, might as well oppose,” when asked about the potential move to block Guo’s candidacy.

Guo’s legal counsel, Stephen David, confirmed that the former mayor plans to file her COC next week, although questions surrounding her Filipino citizenship remain unresolved.

Remulla questioned Guo’s eligibility to run, citing her use of falsified documents and alleging that she is not a Filipino citizen. Guo has also been linked to espionage activities by a Chinese businessman in an international news report, though she denies any connection.

Guo is currently facing multiple legal challenges, including cases related to human trafficking, graft, tax evasion, and money laundering. The Office of the Solicitor General (OSG) has also filed a petition to cancel her birth certificate, which could undermine her defense regarding her identity.
