NBA Abu Dhabi Games 2024: Celtics and Nuggets gear up for preseason with cultural immersion

The NBA Abu Dhabi Games 2024, presented by ADQ, are offering more than just preseason basketball as the Boston Celtics and Denver Nuggets prepare for their matchups on October 4 and 6 at Etihad Arena. Both teams, while gearing up for the season, are taking the opportunity to immerse themselves in the culture of the UAE, building connections and enhancing team chemistry.

Celtics star Jalen Brown, who spent two months in the UAE during the off-season, expressed his deep connection to the region. “This place feels like a home away from home for me,” Brown said, highlighting how the local values align with his own. Brown also emphasized the importance of the Abu Dhabi camp in preparing for the season, particularly the challenge of facing the defending champions, the Denver Nuggets.

Boston’s Jason Tatum shared similar sentiments, noting how off-the-court experiences like visiting the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque helped strengthen team bonds. “Going to the other side of the world for camp really builds chemistry,” Tatum remarked.

On the Nuggets side, reigning MVP Nikola Jokic praised the warm welcome they received in Abu Dhabi and expressed his interest in learning more about the region’s culture, particularly its renowned horses. Meanwhile, new Nuggets addition Russell Westbrook looked forward to exploring the city and building relationships with his teammates.
