Coldplay’s lead vocalist Chris Martin has confirmed that the band’s 12th studio album will mark the end of their journey in making music. During an interview with Zane Lowe on Apple Music, Martin shared that the group intends to release “12 proper albums” before officially stepping away from creating new records.
“We are only going to do 12 proper albums and that’s real,” Martin said, emphasizing the band’s plan to retire from producing albums after their twelfth.
Martin explained their decision by referencing some of their musical influences. “There’s only seven Harry Potters. There’s only 12 ½ Beatles albums, there’s about the same for Bob Marley, so all of our heroes,” he remarked, noting how the band wanted to follow a similar path in limiting their discography.
He also highlighted the importance of maintaining high-quality music with each album. “Having that limit means the quality control is so high right now… where we could be kind of coasting, we’re trying to improve,” he added.
The Coldplay frontman also revealed his intention to give his bandmates—Jonny Buckland, Guy Berryman, and Will Champion—time to focus on their personal lives outside of the group. “To make an album great as a band, it’s such a lot of wrangling of people, and I want to give the others some of their life for themselves,” Martin explained.
However, fans can still expect more from Coldplay beyond their album releases. Martin hinted that the band may continue working on creative projects or compilations, stating, “If we do something together after that creatively beyond touring, then it will be something different, or it’ll be a side thing.”
Coldplay’s upcoming 10th album, Moon Music, is set for release on October 4, leaving just two albums before the band wraps up their studio work.
The band last visited the Philippines in January during their ongoing Music of the Spheres world tour, which began in 2022 and will continue until 2025. Coldplay is known for hits like Viva La Vida, Fix You, Yellow, The Scientist, and A Sky Full of Stars.
