Sony has unveiled the PlayStation 5 Pro, an upgraded version of its 2020 PlayStation 5, focusing on improved graphics and performance. The new console boasts three key advancements: a more powerful GPU, enhanced ray tracing, and a new AI-driven image upscaling system.
The PS5 Pro’s GPU features 67% more compute units and 28% faster memory, resulting in 45% faster game rendering compared to the original PS5. Ray tracing performance has also doubled or even tripled, thanks to the increased compute units.
Sony has introduced the PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution, an AI-powered upscaling solution that enhances image quality, similar to Nvidia’s DLSS. This aims to eliminate the need for performance versus quality toggles in games, offering 60FPS while maintaining high image fidelity.
Additionally, the PS5 Pro introduces a Game Boost feature, which upgrades the resolution and frame rates of over 8,500 PS4 titles. The console supports Wi-Fi 7, VRR, and 8K displays and includes 2TB of storage, priced at $700. Pre-orders begin on September 26, with the official release on November 7.
