Philippines remains the most at-risk country for natural disasters for 16th consecutive year

The Philippines has been identified as the most vulnerable country to natural disasters for the 16th year in a row, according to the latest World Risk Index (WRI) report.

Released by the Institute for International Law of Peace and Armed Conflict in collaboration with Bündnis Entwicklung Hilft (Alliance Development Works), the report assesses 193 United Nations member states using 100 indicators.

The findings show the Philippines’ risk score rose slightly to 46.91 from last year’s 46.86, the highest among all countries in the study. The index measures exposure to natural disasters and a nation’s ability to manage them, with the Philippines consistently ranking as the most at-risk country since 2009.
