As the Dubai Metro marks its 15th anniversary on September 9, 2024, Dubai’s Ruler, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, expressed his appreciation for the Metro workers’ dedication. He noted the system’s impressive 99.7% punctuality rate and announced the goal of reaching 100%.
Since its launch in 2009, the driverless train has transported 2.4 billion passengers over 4.3 million trips. Sheikh Mohammed emphasized that punctuality is a core cultural value of Dubai, with the Metro symbolizing the emirate’s commitment to excellence.
Dubai Crown Prince Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed also commemorated the milestone, highlighting the Metro’s growth from 20,000 passengers a day to over 730,000 daily riders, positioning Dubai as a global leader in sustainable transportation.
The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is celebrating with special initiatives, including academic sponsorships for children born on September 9, discounted Nol cards, and musical performances at Metro stations from September 21-27. Additionally, Metro-related souvenirs, limited-edition post stamps, and Lego-designed Nol cards will be available for residents.
