The biological mother of Chloe San Jose, the partner of two-time Olympic gold medalist Carlos Yulo, has decided to speak out, addressing the controversies that have dragged her into the spotlight. Maria Fe San Jose, also known as “Marie,” broke her silence through her legal counsel, Atty. James Mark Padrones Ciudadano, in a Balita interview, clarifying several issues surrounding her and her daughter.
Marie has been implicated in online speculations ever since rumors surfaced that the Yulo family, especially Carlos’ mother, Angelica Yulo, disapproves of Chloe. These rumors led to hurtful comments about Chloe’s upbringing, questioning her parents and family background.
Through her lawyer, Marie denied allegations that she is an Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) or a laundress. “My client is an Australian citizen and works in aged care services,” Atty. Ciudadano clarified, debunking false claims that Marie had been incarcerated.
“Chloe was born in the Philippines on March 21, 2002, and moved to Australia with my client in 2013. They both acquired Australian citizenship in February 2020,” Atty. Ciudadano added. He further emphasized that Marie single-handedly raised Chloe and that the biological father only reconnected with their daughter last year.
Marie’s lawyer confirmed that tensions existed between her and Chloe, but attributed it to differences in values and parenting approaches. Marie, who wished to instill Filipino values in her daughter, clashed with Chloe, who grew up in Australia. “The frequent clash of ideas led to a gap in their relationship,” Atty. Ciudadano explained.
Despite their strained relationship, Atty. Ciudadano stressed that there was never any legal action between Chloe and her mother. “The alleged case filed by Chloe against my client is not true,” he clarified.
Marie had initially kept silent to protect her peace of mind and her family’s privacy. However, false claims circulating on social media have prompted her to address these issues. Some posts allegedly portrayed her as a bad mother, even dragging her younger children into the controversy.
“Marie kept quiet for the longest time to maintain peace, but the misinformation and images of her minor children being posted online without consent have deeply affected her,” Atty. Ciudadano said.
Regarding the Yulo family’s reported disapproval of Chloe, Marie refrained from commenting, citing her limited interaction with her daughter in recent years. “Chloe was already an adult, and it’s between her and Carlos’ family,” Atty. Ciudadano said.
Another circulating rumor claimed Chloe had a secret child, which Marie’s legal counsel flatly denied. “Chloe does not have a baby. The child in question is actually her younger brother,” he clarified.
Marie has no intention of further involving herself in the controversies between Chloe and the Yulo family, saying her primary goal is to correct falsehoods and restore her family’s private life in Australia.
“My client is doing this not for attention or clout but to set the facts straight,” Atty. Ciudadano concluded, emphasizing that any defamatory content against Marie or her children will be met with legal action.
Chloe has yet to respond to these clarifications.
