The Makabayan Bloc is exploring the possibility of filing an impeachment complaint against Vice President Sara Duterte, citing “betrayal of public trust.” This consideration follows the Commission on Audit’s notice of disallowance regarding the use of confidential funds by the Office of the Vice President (OVP) in 2022.
Liza Maza, co-chair of Makabayan and former Gabriela representative, revealed that the bloc is currently consulting with legal experts on the matter. “We are discussing that; we are consulting with our lawyers and with our members,” Maza said during a forum in San Juan on Friday.
Maza also expressed concern over Duterte’s demeanor during congressional hearings on the 2025 budget, describing it as “bratty.” She criticized the Vice President for her refusal to explain how her P125 million confidential fund was spent, labeling it as an act of arrogance. “They [the public] have the right to know,” Maza added, referring to the accountability expected from public officials.
The Makabayan Bloc is assessing whether Duterte’s behavior and her management of funds could constitute grounds for impeachment under betrayal of public trust.
