2.3 magnitude earthquake detected in UAE, residents feel light tremors

A minor earthquake of magnitude 2.3 was recorded in Masafi by the UAE’s National Seismic Network, part of the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM), on Sunday, September 1, at 7:53 am UAE time.

According to a Khaleej Times report, the quake occurred at a depth of 1.6 km, causing mild tremors that were felt by residents in the area. However, the NCM assured the public that the earthquake did not have any significant effect in the UAE.

This recent seismic activity follows a series of minor earthquakes in the region. On August 18, a 3.0 magnitude earthquake was recorded near the coast of Dibba at 12:14 pm, and on June 8, a 2.8 magnitude quake struck Masafi at 11:01 pm. Earlier in the year, on May 29, residents experienced tremors from two earthquakes near the coast of Ras Al Khaimah, with magnitudes of 3.1 and 2.8 occurring shortly after midnight.

Despite these occasional tremors, experts have reassured residents that there is no cause for concern regarding earthquakes in the UAE.
