YouTube is testing a hum-to-search feature for its Android app users. According to an update on YouTube’s support page and as reported by TechCrunch, the video-sharing giant is experimenting with a search-by-song capability that allows users to identify songs by humming, singing, or recording them.
To use the feature, those who are part of the experiment can switch from YouTube’s regular voice search to the new song search option. By humming, singing, or recording a song for a minimum of three seconds, users will be directed to relevant YouTube content. This may include the official music video, user-generated content, or YouTube Shorts featuring the searched song.
As of now, the feature is only available to a limited number of Android users who have access to the experimental version of the app.
This development is not a first for Google, YouTube’s parent company, which introduced a similar hum-to-search feature in the Google app and Google Assistant back in 2020.
