UAE weather alert: Dusty winds and potential rainfall expected on east coast

The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) has forecasted a potential for rainfall on the UAE’s east coast today, Monday, August 19, due to the presence of low clouds.

An orange alert has been issued by NCM as dusty and windy conditions persist, with winds expected to reach up to 40 km/h, causing blowing dust and sand. The NCM has warned of reduced horizontal visibility, potentially dropping below 3,000 meters in some internal areas until 11 a.m.

Abu Dhabi Police, in a post on X (formerly Twitter), advised motorists to exercise caution due to the reduced visibility and urged drivers to avoid distractions, such as using their phones while driving.

In addition to the orange alert, a yellow alert has been issued for rough seas in the Oman Sea and Arabian Gulf, with waves potentially reaching up to six feet until 1 p.m.

Yesterday, the NCM had also issued a yellow alert for winds up to 50 km/h, leading to similar dusty conditions. Today’s weather is expected to be partly cloudy, with full cloud cover possible over southern and eastern areas. Temperatures will peak at 43°C in Abu Dhabi and 41°C in Dubai, with a low of 2°C in the mountains.

Winds will remain light to moderate, strengthening at times, particularly in the northern and eastern regions, contributing to the dusty conditions. The sea is expected to be slight to moderate, occasionally becoming rough in the Arabian Gulf and Oman Sea.
