Over Dh4.6 million in aid delivered to Dubai inmates in first half of 2024

Dubai’s Punitive and Correctional Institutions have provided over Dh4.6 million in financial and in-kind assistance to male and female inmates in the first half of this year, as part of initiatives aimed at enhancing the quality of life for prisoners. The support reflects the Emirati values of tolerance and brotherhood.

In a Khaleej Times report, Brigadier Salah Juma Bu Osaiba, acting director of the General Department of Punitive and Correctional Institutions, expressed gratitude towards community philanthropists, institutions, and charitable organizations for their significant contributions to these initiatives.

Colonel Abdullah Yaqoub Al Khedher, the acting deputy director, emphasized the role of the Humanitarian Care Department in addressing the needs of inmates from various nationalities. Captain Habib Hussein Mohammed Al Zarouni, head of the department, mentioned that they conducted field visits to charitable organizations to strengthen cooperation and tackle humanitarian issues faced by inmates.

The department also supports the families of inmates struggling with the repercussions of incarceration, mediates in financial disputes, assists with the deportation costs of inmates unable to afford travel, and upholds inmates’ rights based on religious and humanitarian principles.
