UAE announces 3-hour work break for parents on the first day of school

The Federal Authority for Government Human Resources (FAHR) has announced a new policy, aiming to enhance the work-life balance of its employees, especially those with school-going children. The move also seeks to fortify family cohesion among federal workers.

According to the policy:

On the first day of school for primary students and above, employees will be granted a flexibility of up to 3 hours in their arrival and departure times. This initiative is designed to let parents guide their children to school and fetch them later.

Recognizing the varied start dates across different schools, the policy ensures no parent is left at a disadvantage due to particular school schedules.

Parents with children in nurseries or kindergartens can also benefit from the flexibility. During the first week of school, they are allowed to adjust their work hours, with a daily limit of 3 hours.

Beyond the commencement of the academic year, the FAHR policy grants flexibility for other school-related events. Employees can avail up to 3 hours for events like parent-teacher meetings, graduation ceremonies, and more.

However, the Federal Authority has stressed that while granting this flexibility, it’s crucial not to hinder the regular workflow or lessen service quality. All modifications must align with the Federal Government’s Human Resources Law.
