Yulo family misses airport welcome due to unexpected change in plans, says grandfather

The much-anticipated homecoming of Carlos Yulo, the two-time Olympic gold medalist, was met with enthusiasm from fans and supporters at Villamor Airbase on Tuesday night. However, the absence of Yulo’s family at the airport raised questions among the public, especially following the recent controversy involving Yulo and his mother, Angelica Yulo.

Rodrigo Frisco, Yulo’s grandfather and a key figure in the athlete’s early gymnastics training, revealed the reason behind their absence. In an interview with ABS-CBN News, the 74-year-old explained that the family was prepared to greet Carlos at the airport but was informed last minute that they would not be allowed to do so.

“We were ready to welcome him, but we were told we couldn’t go. Only the President and selected media were allowed to meet him at the airbase,” Frisco said, expressing his disappointment.

Frisco, who was instrumental in taking Carlos to his first gymnastics training sessions at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum, shared that they had no choice but to respect the decision. When asked who made the call, Frisco mentioned that it might have been Carlos himself, although he couldn’t confirm.

Despite missing the airport welcome, Frisco assured that the family is eagerly awaiting Carlos’ homecoming parade scheduled for Wednesday afternoon. “We’re excited because we haven’t seen him in a long time. Our friends have even prepared banners and food to celebrate,” Frisco said, his voice filled with anticipation.
