Turkish shooter Yusuf Dikec, 51, has captured the internet’s attention at the Paris Olympics 2024, not only for his impressive performance but for his unconventional gear. Despite winning a silver medal in the mixed team 10m air pistol event with his partner Sevval Ilayda Tarhan, it was Dikec’s minimalist approach to equipment that stole the spotlight.
While most competitors in air pistol events rely on specialized goggles and ear protection, Dikec achieved his silver medal using only prescription glasses and simple earplugs. Images of him calmly taking aim at the Chateauroux Shooting Centre have gone viral on social media, highlighting his no-frills style.
The gold medal in the event was claimed by Serbia’s Zorana Arunovic and Damir Mikec, while India’s Manu Bhaker and Sarabjot Singh secured the bronze after defeating the South Korean team of Oh Ye-jin and Lee Won-ho.
Dikec’s participation in the 2024 Paris Games marks his fifth Olympic appearance, beginning with the 2008 Beijing Olympics. The silver medal win on Tuesday represents his first Olympic medal, capping off a long and distinguished career.
