Get ready for another intense competition as Netflix reveals that the second season of ‘Squid Game’ will premiere on December 26.
In a press release on August 1, director, writer, and executive producer Hwang Dong-hyuk expressed his excitement about returning to the world of ‘Squid Game.’ He shared, “It feels surreal to return to this story. We’re committed to delivering another thrilling experience.”
The upcoming season takes place three years after Player 456, Sung Gi-hun, played by Lee Jung-jae, won the initial deadly competition. Gi-hun continues his quest to uncover the masterminds behind the games, leading him to participate in a new deadly contest.
Returning cast members include Lee Jung-jae, Lee Byung-hun, Wi Ha-jun, and Gong Yoo. New players Yim Si-wan, Kang Ha-neul, Park Sung-hoon, and Yang Dong-geun will also join the series, though their character details remain undisclosed.
In addition to the Season 2 announcement, Netflix confirmed that a third and final season is in the works, set to air in 2025.
‘Squid Game,’ which debuted in September 2021, follows cash-strapped contestants who play childhood games with lethal consequences for a cash prize. The series became Netflix’s biggest original launch and received numerous accolades, including a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor for O Yeong-su and multiple Screen Actors Guild Award nominations.
