Carlos Yulo aims for strong finish in Paris Olympics individual all-around finals

Filipino gymnast Carlos Yulo is set to showcase his skills on Wednesday at the Bercy Arena in Paris, competing in the individual all-around finals at the 2024 Paris Olympics. This event marks the first of three finals for Yulo, who has been training rigorously for this moment.

Gymnastics Association of the Philippines (GAP) President Cynthia Carrion has expressed realistic expectations for Yulo’s performance in the individual all-around. Despite the tough competition, there is optimism for Yulo’s chances in the upcoming floor exercise and vault finals, where he is considered a stronger contender for medals.

The individual all-around finals will feature 24 of the world’s best gymnasts, including notable contenders from China and Japan. Fil-British gymnast Jake Jarman is also in the mix, adding to the excitement. The event kicks off at 11:30 p.m. Philippine time.

Japanese gymnast Daiki Hashimoto is eyeing a historic back-to-back victory in the all-around, aiming to join the ranks of legends Sawao Kato and Kohei Uchimura. Shinnosuke Oka, another Japanese hopeful, will also be a strong competitor, while China’s Boheng Zhang, the top qualifier, leads the pack.

Other competitors include Great Britain’s Joe Fraser, Ukraine’s Oleg Verniaiev and Illia Kovtun, and American gymnasts Frederick Richard and Paul Juda. Yulo, with a qualifying score of 83.631, will be vying to improve his standing against these top athletes.
