President Marcos’ ratings drop in latest survey; Vice President Duterte sees gains

President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s approval and trust ratings have dipped, according to the latest Ulat ng Bayan survey by Pulse Asia. The survey, comparing data from March and June, showed a two-point drop in Marcos’ approval rating from 55% to 53%, and a five-point decline in his trust rating from 57% to 52%.

The survey, according to a GMA Integrated News report, highlighted regional differences in the ratings. Luzon saw the most significant drop in Marcos’ approval, decreasing by nine points from 66% to 57%. A slight decrease was also noted in Mindanao, from 40% to 38%. However, Marcos gained support in the National Capital Region (NCR) with a 14-point increase, rising from 47% to 61%, and a two-point rise in Visayas from 54% to 56%.

Economic classes also showed varying trends. Among Class ABC, Marcos’ approval rating fell by 13 points, while Class D saw a three-point decline. Conversely, Class E recorded a four-point gain.

Vice President Sara Duterte’s approval rating increased by two points, from 67% in March to 69% in June, while her trust rating remained steady at 71%. Duterte’s approval ratings saw increases in NCR (+12 points), Visayas (+16 points), and Mindanao (+3 points), but a seven-point drop in Luzon. Among economic classes, her approval rating surged by 17 points in Class E, while it decreased by six points in Class ABC and saw a slight increase of one point in Class D.

House Speaker Martin Romualdez also saw an improvement in his ratings. His approval rating rose by two points, from 34% to 36%, with significant gains in Visayas (+26 points). His trust rating increased by four points, from 31% to 35%, with the Visayas again showing the most significant improvement (+30 points).

Senate President Francis “Chiz” Escudero, newly elected in May, received a nationwide trust rating of 69%. He expressed gratitude for the trust of the Filipino people and emphasized the Senate’s commitment to doing what is right, regardless of survey outcomes. “Kung mataas ‘yan, inspirasyon ‘yan para sa amin. Kung mababa man ‘yan e di pwedeng aral at leksyon na pwedeng pagpulutan namin yan para magsumikap pa,” he said.

Romualdez echoed a similar sentiment, viewing the improved ratings as validation of the House’s efficient work. “We are happy that we are gaining the people’s trust as the House leader. These results are a clear affirmation of the diligent work and dedication demonstrated by my colleagues here at the House of Representatives,” Romualdez said, emphasizing the House’s commitment to policies and projects that benefit Filipinos.
