The Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority (TDRA) of the UAE has issued a fresh advisory urging residents to stay alert while topping up or recharging their mobile phones. Scammers are becoming increasingly creative in their attempts to steal money, making it crucial to exercise caution during online financial transactions.
The TDRA highlighted the importance of using the correct links and official websites of service providers when topping up mobile balances. This measure helps prevent falling victim to electronic fraud. They advised users to look out for typos, stray capital letters, extra commas, and other grammar mistakes that often indicate fake websites.
Authorities in the UAE regularly issue warnings and tips to help residents avoid scams. They also emphasize verifying the authenticity of websites by checking for the lock icon in the header bar and ensuring the URL begins with “https.”
Dedicated branches against cybercrime activities have been established to protect UAE residents from cyber-scams, reinforcing the importance of remaining vigilant online.
